OpenAI has started rolling out Health in ChatGPT to adult users in the United States, allowing people to connect selected medical records and Apple Health data to conversations.
What users can connect
The new experience supports Apple Health, medical records from participating U.S. hospital systems, One Medical and Function Health. Data from compatible fitness, nutrition and wearable apps can also become available through Apple Health when the user has enabled sharing.
How the health context is used
With permission, ChatGPT can use connected information such as medications, laboratory results, recent visits, sleep, activity and exercise data to explain changes over time, prepare questions for an appointment or place a new result in the context of earlier records.
Health information can be used in conversations outside the dedicated Health section. By default, ChatGPT asks before drawing on connected records, although users can choose to grant ongoing access and change that setting later.
Availability
Health is beginning to roll out on web and iOS to logged-in users aged 18 and older in the United States across Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans. OpenAI says the feature is not currently available in Codex.
Privacy controls
OpenAI says connected medical records, Apple Health data and conversations that use that information are not used to train its foundation models or target advertising. The company also says connected health information receives additional encryption protections.
Users can disconnect a health account at any time. OpenAI says synced data from that source is deleted from its systems within 30 days, while information already included in conversation history remains until the user deletes those conversations.
Limits and medical oversight
OpenAI says ChatGPT can still make mistakes and does not replace qualified medical professionals. Important information should be checked against original records, and medical decisions should be discussed with a healthcare provider.
Practical significance
The launch moves ChatGPT from answering isolated health questions toward working with a user-controlled personal health context. Its usefulness will depend on data quality, privacy controls, model accuracy and whether users understand the boundary between explanation and medical care.
OpenAI announced the rollout in an official product post .
